Brief History of Sir Victor Uwaifor
Uwaifor a highlife musician was born in Benin City, Edo State Nigeria 1 March 1941. He began playing guitar when he was 12 years old. He studied graphics in the university and majored in Sculpture at his master’s degree.
He played in the band of many great musicians like
Stephen Osadebe and Fred Coker before forming his own band Melody Maestros in
1965. He was proficient in playing Electric guitar, Flute, Saxophone, Electric
Piano, Percussion and Vocals.
Victor Uwaifor who was popularly called ‘the guitar boy’ was not only a
musician; he was also a Sculptor, Musical instrument inventor, University
Lecturer and the first Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in
Nigeria.
He died 28 August 2021
